Can not install FreeNAS from external DVD or USB 2.0 4GB Verbatim.

Hello!

It dont work to install FreeNAS using a external dvd player or USB 2.0 4.0 Verbatim stick.

What could be the reason?

I tried with the latest stable version. And yes when using USB i readed there for Windows 7.

And .iso i used mac os x to burn to the dvd.

If you want to help me! Please , i could pay for it over paypal or something. Moneybookers?
I have teamviewer or if you use any other type of remote administration.

I am trying with the latest Stable version FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64.iso

HELP! ;(

Some USB CD-ROM drives don't work well with FreeBSD. I've seen this issue before and the only fix I could find was to use a CDROM that isn't on USB.

I tried installing FreeNAS directly on the SSD and it worked good.

So i think the USB didnt work, and the external cd driver was not supported.

Hi swealpha,

One thing to keep in mind is that you can use any computer you have with an optical drive to "install" FreeNAS onto the USB key. All the install cd does is write out the image, there's no configuration done at install time. When the install CD prompts you to reboot just power off the PC when it drops to the bois & move the key over to the FreeNAS box.

@swealpha It appears that during your usb installation, the name of your flashdrive is not recogniz by the kernel, in order to fix it, you need to edit the /etc/fstab file with the proper denomination !
