Hey everybody,

My question is as the title states. I have a parent folder called Mics and I have 4 sub datasets config, downloads, incomplete and torrents. I created a transmission plugin then added the parent dataset Mics as storage to mnt in the jail. I ran the transmission as root and with that everything works fine in the jail. Transmission can write and read from the datasets. Then I shared the parent dataset Mics to the network as a cifs share and realized the subdatasets are all empty but they have data in the jail. I experimented a bit and figure out if I add the subdatasets individually to the jail then I can see the data on my cifs as well.

So could someone confirm if i can only add individual datasets to a jail or if I am doing something wrong.

no you can't. mounting a folder into the jail uses nullfs which doesn't span underlying filesystem's.

Damn. I really wanted to avoid adding all those datasets individually. Thanks for the answer.

I personally have my incomplete/complete and final media locations as different folders on the same dataset. this means only metadata changes during processing&postprocessing instead of read+write+delete operations between datasets.
