Bios has numlock turned on during boot, but Freenas always turns it off when finding the usb keyboard during boot and leaves it off. Is there any to set it to leave it ON during and after boot ?

Would appreciate any help this matter please...

Because my NAS is in another part of my home, on another floor, and I don't want to carry around a keyboard if I need one to set up bios at the NAS with.

This MB has IPMI so why do you bother with a keyboard? just connect to the server from any other PC on the network ;)

Well, aside from the fact that you have ipmi and you should never ever need to hook up a keyboard, you should only have to configure BIOS one time...if you have to get into BIOS that often, you're doing it wrong

90% of the time I do use IPMI to do everything, but every once in a while my usb boot drive can't be found from bios and I need to actually unplug it and re-plug it in to fix it. Either way, for whatever reason I use a keyboard for, I was just wondering if there was any way to have Freenas NOT turn off the numlock during boot up.
Anyone know how ? Thanks.

I'm a little perplexed as to why you want NumLock to be on all the time?

As far as I know, there is no way to keep this turned on when FreeNAS boots.

None of use know how to make the numlock always stay on. No one really cares to ever do this, it's pointless.

Well, no one *except* the OP asking the question. Probably could have just stuck to, "none of us know how to make the numlock always stay on." :)

And oh how I wish I had ipmi on my machine!

I'm confused. You say you want the numlock on because you sometimes need to mess with BIOS settings, which for some reason you can't (or don't want to) do via IPMI. But FreeNAS won't have booted yet when you're in the BIOS, so nothing FreeNAS does will affect this. And the only time you'd need to use the console at all is if there were no configured network interfaces. I know that doesn't really answer the "how" question, but the more I hear, the more I'm confused about "why".

Duct Tape.... 'nuff said... o_O

+1 to @danb35 's comment, if you are in the BIOS then it ain't no FreeNAS or any loaded OS for that matter that is in control of it.

First of all, I thank all of you for responding in saying that there is no known way to stop freenas from turning off the numlock function of the usb keyboard when it initializes it.
Second of all, the why of it all simply boils down to personal preference on my part. That would best describe it rather than explain every scenario I would want this.
Again Thanks.
