Since I'm in the process of putting my hardware in "production" I have gone about doing HW-tests. I ran memtest overnight ~10h, zero errors, check. CPU has been stressed enough for me to be comfortable. I ran solnet-array-test-v2.sh for about 1-2 hours before I accidentally hit ctrl-c, which is not "copy" as far as shell is concerned...

Now, I plan on running it again, but what should I expect? Suggested time for one pass is ~20 hours. How long should I let it run?

What does "SLOW" and "FAST" mean, other than disk read speed is outside below or above 92% and 107%?

I did monitor disk temps while it ran. Highest was 31.2° C. Ok?

I ran full smart long tests on all drives after using some cmds to write/read over all of them a few times, haven't used that script though so cant comment on it specifically.

I'm learning stuff. That's good. I now know of tmux and badblocks. Been a while since i had putty on my (windows) desktop. Also, did you know OSX has ssh is build into terminal, I didn't (just ssh root@freenas_ip from terminal, and it works).

Did the short/conveyance and long smartctl. The two first finished in less than 2 minutes. Long test took about 10 hours. Currently waiting for badblocks test results. Should be finished in a couple of days... I estimate just short of 6 days total, based on progress during first 22 hours.

Well. One week later. Or as Fester would say "doctors results are in". Badblocks test passed for all drives. However, smart test show non-zero values for Raw_Read_Error_Rate and Seek_Error_Rate. Fester notes that: "If you get any value other than zero in the “RAW VALUE” for these entries you should be suspicious of this drive and may need to return the device for testing depending on the manufacturer’s warranty."

But Hardware_ECC_Recovered matches Raw_Read_Error_Rate. So, which is it? Bad drives, or business as usual?

Ok, after some more reading: Seagate is apparently reporting concatenation of error rate and total reads. The values returned for that SMART property on Seagate drives are 48-bit words, and the upper 16 bits are the number of errors.

converting Raw_Read_Error_Rate value to hex i get:
Code:
8024B32  --> 48 bit format 0x000008024B32 --> 16 bit 0x0000 + 32 bit 0x08024B32
28C7B32  --> 48 bit format 0x0000028C7B32 --> 16 bit 0x0000 + 32 bit 0x028C7B32
1966632  --> 48 bit format 0x000001966632 --> 16 bit 0x0000 + 32 bit 0x01966632
A0A1932  --> 48 bit format 0x00000A0A1932 --> 16 bit 0x0000 + 32 bit 0x0A0A1932

i.e. If I did this the right way 0 read errors?
