Hello,

I'm planning on installing truenas on my pc and act as a "backup server". Got lots of photos and videos (around 5tb atm) that I want to backup. I think I have finally settled with truenas as OS.
Thinking of installing 6x4tb in raidz2. And 2 x ssd for boot. (good or bad?)
So about 14tb of storage.

But I'm also thinking of installing plex and running some torrents on the truenas server. So I was thinking how I should do with my hdd setup for this. I might have read somewhere that zfs is not so good with "allocating" torrents?

If I do 6x4tb raidz2 for my backup, can I add a couple of other hdd/ssd to be used just for my plex and torrents? Im still learning about best practice for pool, vdev, raidz etc.

Thanks!

Fine.

Indeed you might have. CoW (Copy on Write) isn't a great match for the way Torrents work, but turning off the pre-allocation of the file can help a little. (but you will still need to watch out for high fragmentation in the pool)

Sure. No problem.

The question is maybe, if I can use my pool/vdev(?) 6x4tb raidz2 separately from my other drives where I want to put the plex and torrenting.

So I don't interfere with my backup drives. As they will hold important photos and videos.

Don't know if I misunderstood something I read before about, if one disk in one pool crash, that all my pool will fail..?

I know I'm having a hard time with the terminology. I've installed TN core on an old machine to learn before I go all in.
