I am looking to buy a device to stream Music + Movies from an NAS (still in process of installing)
I don't want to jailbreak, and I'd like it to be in HD 1080p.
The WD TV Live advertises that you can stream content from a Network Drive

Anyone have any experience with this unit?
Any suggestions for a different unit to stream from NAS?

Thanks in advance!

I have used a WDTV Live. Works great. It uses CIFS shares.

Here's what you need to know:

1. It works with CIFS.
2. The WDTV Live should be kept updated.
3. Depending on what format your files are in, they may or may not be compatible with WDTV. It has a wide range of formats, audio and video codecs, etc. So it should work with most if your stuff. If a video doesn't play, it's more than likely a codec issue.
4. The UI is a little funky and takes some getting used to.
5. I "upgraded" to the roku with the plex addon. I'd never go back to WDTV Live now. But Plex requires you to have a Plex "server" and be setup properly. WDTV is so easy a caveman could use it if you can setup a "guest" share in FreeNAS. :P

Thanks for the quick + informative answer!
Hmmm, I'll have to google some Roku + WD Live TV comparisons, Im curious as to what's better.
I just finally got the NAS drive to allow me to Write to it; now I am overwhelmed with the amount of configuration that is avaiable and how to go about it
Seeing as I am having a tough time, I will probably get the WD.

Thanks again!
