Hi all,

I am running freeNas 8.3.1 with 2 disks configured as mirror.

the zpool status command tells me the volume is healthy

However, I have this line on screen

"/: bad dir ino 72014 at offset 0: mangled entry" that i don't understand.

Could it mean that the system installed on a USB drive is corrupted ? What does it mean? What should i do ?

Please help

I did a fresh install on a new USB drive, and it seems to be back to normal.

However if someone could post info about this message, i would appreciate.

In particular if one day i read something like

"/mnt/path/to/my/pool: bad dir ino ***x at offset xx: mangled entry"

would it mean data is corrupted (I am running a ZFS pool)?

Info appreciated!

Yes, it means that there was a problem with the UFS directory entry. Reinstall. USB flash sometimes seems to rot.

You won't get that message with ZFS, though possibly a different one, if there is corruption on a hard disk and no correct version of the data is available. That's why you use redundancy.
