Backup freenas pool for HDD burn-in test

Hello,

I would like to stress test the hard drives on Freenas box. What is the best way to backup the hdds? I do have other machines with Linux on them but no ZFS.

Can I simply create tars of all the datasets, move them to another machine and restore them after my destructible stress test?

You could actually use ZFS Send to a file, move the file and then ZFS RECEIVE to import the dataset.

You might consider running non-destructive write tests.
