Back up and restore a jail

I would like to be able to have a jail in a pristine state, or rather to be able to restore to a pristine state with a few customisations, ie to have a baseline jail where I can perform various tasks but eventually restore to that baseline configuration.

How would I go about doing something like that?

I don't really want to recreate the jail from scratch each time.

Just take a snapshot of the jail prior to installing anything, under Storage > Volumes select your jail and click snapshot. Then to restore it, go to the snapshot tab and roll it back.
