Authentication with Azure Active Directory

Is FreeNAS capable of Authenticating with a cloud-only Azure Active Directory?

I have scoured the usual online sources and have not had any luck.

If there are any resources or gems of wisdom, I would sure welcome them.

You can bind to Azure AD directly if you set up a VPN. See my writeup at

Nothing that I'm aware of.

Be aware that doing this can be expensive -- Azure AD and Azure VPN Gateway are $100 USD each per month, plus data charges plus what not runs to $2500 USD per year. I have set up a local AD domain controller and I'm preparing to implement Azure AD Connect to implement sync. I'm being very cautious since it's a mostly one-way sync (local DC to cloud) although password changes can be sync'ed back. I don't want to wipe any cloud accounts that are already established.

Bind to Azure Active Directory?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to bind my FreeNAS server to Azure AD? I'm pretty savvy with LDAP and AD and I have bound FreeNAS to a local AD domain controller before.

@plsuh; do you think the same setup is possible via Univention UCS as local Domain Controller?
