Would love to use what FreeNAS offers but it seems it is not possible to attach an iSCSI box (Drobo Pro) which is a deal breaker for me as I am (obviously) not going to be spending a lot of money of another solution.

I could still backup and reformat the Drobo as storage in ESXi but then I can't attach it directly to the VM afaik (but being a relative noob I might miss something here)

So, the question is.. Can I or not? been searching the net and all I can find is that FreeNAS supports being an iSCSI target but not attaching one. If so I guess it's going to be Ubuntu and samba ...

Thanks for any pointers..

FreeNAS is designed for direct attached drives not iSCSI. Since FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD, you could probably rig something together, but I imagine it would be easier to go Ubuntu.
