I can see some old posts from Cyberjock where he's had problems with Areca cards

e.g. https://www.ixsystems.com/community...single-lun-for-all-pass-through-drives.20048/

However, it seems it's now possible to get smartctl to read the areca data correctly nowddays, see below

Just wondering if anyone had more recent success. I'm not sure if it's possible to make ZFS aware of the smartctl data somehow? Just because I can see it I can't assume ZFS can. And maybe there's more to the story than just that

Is Cyberjock still around?

Hope this isn't too offensive but I may not end up using freenas on this one, but proxmox. But wanted to ask here as suspect you all have better ZFS knowledge. Just in case that makes a difference.
That said, will test it out for certain.

Have you tried putting your areca settings for smartctl in the "S.M.A.R.T. Extra Options" for each disk attached to the card?

By the way, in case you didn't notice, that's a very unhealthy disk you have there...
