Hello Forum

I heard that FreeNAS/ZFS does offer encryption. But does FreeNAS/ZFS encrypt filenames- folder and folder-structure as well?

Thank a lot for every feedback!

Joe

PS
Under Windows it's quite easy to recover the remnants of the original file- and foldername (if you have the right tools and physical-access
to the machine/fs

The entire pool is encrypted. You must enter a key to have access to the pool but once you do, there is no visible encryption after that point until the system is shutdown/rebooted. This encryption only protects against physical theft, meaning someone steals your computer and then tries to plug it in and gain access to your data. Without the key the pool will not be accessible.
