Hi,
We have FreeNAS 11 running via usb on a server, logs on ok but after a while seems to disconnect to a web browser says page cannot be displayed. If I go to the server hit the enter key it works again.
has anyone come across this problem before?

I'm having a similar problem. I have noticed that my windows and macbook keep disconnecting from the server. If I go investigating at server it reconnects.
Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Mem: 8 Gb non-ECC
Power supply: 500+
Drives: 2 120+ gb Sata drives (BOOT)
1 4 TB drive Seagate (from a Seagate NAS that the controller fried on.)(Data Drive)

I've only started having this problem since 11 went to release version. I'm using this at home and at the moment I'm the only one using the FreeNAS system for storage, so the hardware may be old but FreeNAS hasn't given me any problems till of late. Last week I had to recover data from the drive that said it was last accessed from another system, because the FreeNAS went into a Panic mode and I reloaded the software before I knew what had caused the issue, or that my drive may have been the cause of the panic. I even had a panic mode start today, but luckily I had my data on another drive as well as the FreeNAS system still so I wasn't panicing :p I am in the process of copying data to the FreeNAS system now and it hiccuped about a 1/4 of the way, disconnecting my Windows 10 machine from the share.

I have set S.M.A.R.T to do a long scan to see if the drive is failing. Hopefully some info will come up as to why I get a hiccup from the server.

Honestly you should never use that system for FreeNAS. Crap realtek nic, crap disk controller, no ecc and super old that should be in the trash by now.

If your system is panicing that means you have a hardware failure. Normally I would debug this but this time you should just look into building a new system. Since you are running very few drives you can get a hold ml10 for less than $200 usd+8gb memory.

You also should not be using a single drive. FreeNAS is designed to use at least 2 drives but ideally more than that.

I'd love to get new hardware for it but I can't, due to financial reasons. If the Seagate NAS system hadn't died I'd never have looked into FreeNAS, as I had data I needed from the drive. Since I have hardware sitting around and needed a replacement NAS, I went with FreeNAS. I was worried when I first started using FreeNAS as I didn't know if it would work on the system. I keep looking to the reporting screens and the system actually runs well under 50% cpu when transferring all the data I have been moving around of late. Also USB doesn't like cooperating on this machine for a boot device, hence the 2 120+ sata drives. If I can keep it working till next year when with tax return I can maybe get some newer hardware I will probably upgrade. But I may have to keep this working for about 2 yrs if it holds up.
