I'm installing FreeNAS onto a N40L - however I don't have a monitor to plug it into so I'm unable to see the console menu and I have no idea what the web GUI IP is. Nothing shows up on my router's DHCP table and nmap doesn't show anything either. The N40L is connected directly to the router via ethernet.

Short of borrowing a monitor from someone, any other ideas?

If you don't see it on your router table, I'm guessing that either the computer is not actually booting or not detecting your network card.
Can you at least hear BIOS beep codes to make sure that it actually performs POST properly? I believe most BIOS should output one short beep for successful POST.

I'd say your chance of skipping the monitor is probably not very good.
