I'm currently upgrading my server and after having a passive cooled cpu for a while I'm going with a Xeon.

Couldn't find much info on cpu cooler information, but just wanted to see if the stock Intel cooler is OK for my server? I know it will keep temps in check, but how loud is it? I have never used stock ever.

Currently my server is in a fractal r4 case with a couple of low rpm 140mm fans and runs silent.

Do you guys just use stock or do you got for any aftermarket coolers?

I would suggest trying stock. And if you need more then upgrade after the fact.

It's not loud. It can get loud, but that's very rare, considering typical workloads.

I run the stock cooler and quite honestly don't hear it above my front case fan. CPU temp never goes above 65 and that's in a case that is pretty packed So I know airflow isn't optimum.

I use Dynatron K666 CPU Coolers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252397184939

They are more efficient at removing the heat when my PLEX is transcoding video. The stock cooler would ramp up and you could hear it. These I don't hear.
