Hi,

Long timer lurker first time poster.

I have a FreeNas box with two NICS connected to different subnets. When connecting on the first network FreeNas uses and gets its address via DHCP I can see the AFP shares on OSX straight away. When connecting to the second network nothing we have to manually enter the address to connect to FreeNas.

Is there away to debug this and get it working across multiple subnets.

Cheers in advance.

AFP, like most other protocols, will not broadcast across subnets without something assisting it.

Thanks for the reply but thats not what I am trying to do.

I have two subnets e.g 10.3.0.0/24 and 10.3.1.0/24

FreeNas has an interface for each subnet where you can talk directly to FreeNas in each subnet using its local ip for that range.

The problem is when putting the OSX machine on 10.3.0.0/24 the machine discovers the AFP shares straight away. Connect the same machine to the 10.3.1.0/24 subnet and FreeNas is not advertising the shares. I have to type its local address manually.

So the question is how do I make it advertise in both subnets for which it is directly connected?

Cheers

What Version of FreeNAS? 11.1?

You might check in the services tab under AFP and see what "bind IP addresses" is set to. Both of your interfaces should be checked.
