Well, I set up my FreeNAS on an HP ProLiant Microserver last night and have been busy copying data from my Mac to it - so far so good.

One thing that irks me, and unfortunately I haven't found any conclusive info on it, is the "Database path" variable for AFP shares.

I understand that this is supposed to point to a directory where the afpd can set up its lookup database; however, I haven't entered anything into the field and AFP seems to be working just fine.

So is this optional because the system uses a default location to write the database to if it is left blank, or did I create a timebomb waiting to go off?

Thank you!

Thanks ser_rhaegar.
I had seen that previously to my post.
By "default is the root of the volume", I presume that means that if I leave it blank, the database will be written to the root directory of the volume that the share is on?

Thanks,
Hans
