I can't connect to my FreeNAS server from Mac OS 10.13 or Windows 10 using SMB. I have tried network browsing and just typing //awoobox/music.

When booted to Mac OS X, I can access the AFP shares without issue but cannot connect with SMB. And in my research on the latest Mac OS, SMB is preferred unless using Timemachine.

I'm not sure where to go from here as the SMB service is running in FreeNAS and I do have shares setup in FreeNAS with Windows-based permissions.

Try opening finder and clicking "Go"->"Connect to server", then type "smb://<IP of your server>/music"
Oh! That works. I even tried smb://awoobox.local/music and that works too. Awesome.

How can I make it discoverable so it shows under Shared in my Finder? the AFP shows that way. Also, do I need to type the whole thing like awoobox.local in Windows too? Should I remove the .local from FreeNAS's settings?

Thanks for your help!
