Hi all,

I have just installed Frenas 8.3 in a virtual machine. Is it possible to administer freenas via the commandline? Yes, I know that there is a shell I can reach from the console. Can I do things like creating users and groups manually in the shell?

The reason I have to do this is that I have an issue navigating the web interface of freenas. I am blind so use a screen reader which is a program that converts the text of the screen into speech output. I use job access with speech (jaws) from http://www.freedomscientific.com. My screen reader has a problem in handling the menu like navigation that has been implemented in the web interface.

Hi William,

Many thanks for your response. There is an open source screen reader out there called non-visual desktop access or NVDA. Get it at http://www.nvda-project.org. This may be easier to work with than Jaws since NVDA does not require a license. Jaws does have a 30 minute demonstration mode which may help. Whatever works with NVDA, will work with all other screen readers.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help with this.

By the way, I and other blind users encountered a similar issue with the wordpress platform. We used a plugin called ozhAdmin to get around the problem. OzhAdmin expanded all the menus by default so we got bunches of links. I bring this up since this may be an easier solution to implement.

Just thinking alowd
