Hi everyone,

I have been playing with FreeNAS for a couple of months now.

I am bit confused in case of emergency/failover that computer with FreeNAS fails, how it will be possible to access data not using FreeNAS? (EG. connecting drive to another computer).

I know Windows is not capable of handling ZFS.

What you guys will do in this scenario?

Kind regards
David

Easiest answer? Plug a FreeNAS USB and the drive(s) into some other computer. Failing that, ZFS works with just about every other non-Windows OS, so you could plug the drive into a Linux box, or a Mac (with OpenZFS on OSX installed) and import the pool from there.

Just boot FreeNAS, that's the fastest and simplest way. Windows is really the only OS that doesn't support ZFS but that will change soon. There is work being done to support it.
