I decided to go with 6x2TB WD GREEN and use WDIDLE as per cyberjocks thread to test and modify the head parking. Total cost came out to $1008.00 USD with neweggs STPATRICKS10 promo code I found online. not bad considering the QNAP/DELL 8TB RAID5 I have sitting under my desk right now cost my employer about $10k.

Again, I thank you all for the help and suggestions you've given me.

ok people,

My build is complete and currently almost done rsyncing my 1tb of data from my old nas4free server.
since i plan on only using 1 NFS share and 1 SMB / CIFS share there isn't much setup involved.

I did use wdidle to change the timeout from 8 seconds to 300 seconds are per the recommendations.

CASE: Fractal Node 304
HDD: 6x2TB WD GREENS. RaidZ2. 7.1TB usable.
CPU: Intel Pentium G3220
RAM: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ECC Unbuffered Server Memory Model CT2KIT102472BD160B
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-360GP 360W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
Motherboard: ASRock E3C226D2I Mini ITX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C226 DDR3 1600/1333

Now a few thoughts.

I love the Motherboard. Especially with it's remote capabilities. I never once plugged it into a monitor to set it up. I can't say enough about this boards capabilities of mounting virtual media. Much like the DRAC enabled DELL servers we use at work. This feature is awesome.

The case I absolutely love for aesthetic purposes. But absolutely hate for working inside of. I ordered 6 Sata cables that are 6 inches in length each.
If you're using this tiny case with this board then make sure you label the cables and plug them in before you mount the board to the case.

Power Supply. The case makes it near impossible to screw in all 4 screws for the power supply. With the PSU mounted the socket on it ends up situated near the front of the case. this makes the case power extension bend at a VERY sharp 90 degree angle to get it plugged in. I don't like this at all. I'm going to have to cut the extension cable on the case and attach a new end that will let this sit better. Unless I can completely dismount and mount the plug again. I haven't check this yet.

If i had to do it again, I would not be using this case. I'm seriously thinking of just getting another mid size case and redoing everything if it frustrates me enough.

But it's my first build and I'm satisfied with that so far. I don't plan on building another for myself for atleast another 5-10 years or hardware failure.
Whichever comes first. But I will be definitely be recommending to clients looking for SO/HO storage to NOT buy a small case that their techs can't work inside of. (oh gawd the amount of zip ties everywhere)

Thanks for all the help and recommendations!
