2.5" SATA HDDs for Use in a 24 x 2.5" Bay DELL MD1220 6Gbps SAS Disk Shelf

Use the right tool for the job the WD Red drive is designed for NAS. I don't think the other options are

An alternative is some sort of enterprise drive maybe even SAS

Did a little bit of checking around and the issues I see with the setup,

WD Reds : Maximum size is 1TB @ $100 per
So for 24TB Raw you would be looking at $2400, which is pretty expensive.

I almost recently purchased a 24 bay 2U server, but the price per GB on the 2.5" drives, just out ways any advantage, and whilst they use less power, you will need 2-3x as many to create the same space as utilising 3.5"

I would only suggest using SAS 10K/15K SSD Drives on a 2.5" platform for speed, otherwise you better off selling the md1220 and grabbing a 3.5" enclosure.
