Greetings!
My home nas experience began with a HP MSS EX470. I wound up replacing that sucker with a EX490 that I upgraded with a quad core and more memory. Two weeks ago I for giggles I booted it up with FreeNAS 8.3.1 (thumb drive install). Boy was I impressed with the performance - way more consistent than WHS 2003.
So what happened over the last two weeks?
Did some soul searching here and put together a 6 drive i5-3570k system with 16GB ram. I even got a couple of 10GBe adapters and did a P2P network between my main workstation and the FN unit while using the onboard GBe port of the mITX mobo to connect to the home network for streaming and other file services.
What a great system the community has built - looking forward to years of use.
Best regards,
Malic
