MacOS showing scrambled images since SONOMA update

Hello all,

I have been running succesfully a CORE server for a year now, It's a small network accessed by both windows and MacOS computers.

Since the last upgrade to MACOS SONOMA images do not open ("cannot open file it maybe damaged or corrupted") or open scrambled (only some part of an image is displayer and it shows as lines), the same images open perfectly fine still on the windows machines, the problem is only with the MacOS ones. The same image files that cannot be opened will open after a disconnect/reconnect or restarting the computer, but most of the time they won't open. I´m attaching an image of a jpg file opened on macos.

Other files open just fine, word, excel, pdf, etc.

Is there a FreeNAS setting that have to be used for SONOMA that I am missing?

Please PM me a debug and maybe a zippd-up copy of one of the images so that I can verify from my Sonoma client.
Done, also I checked an image that cannot be opened will open after I copy it to my desktop.

Found this thread via google search. I too have this identical problem and this is one of the only places I have seen it specifically mentioned.

I am running a 2019 Mac Mini with a RAID array directly attached. Connecting over LAN from my Macbook Pro (2019) and I have never had this issue until updating to Sonoma - first on the MBP then on the Mini. Issue is as described above - pictures open regularly on the mini, but most (not all but most) will open scrambled on the MBP. I have noticed if I use the gallery view and generate thumbnails first, I can then open fine, but opening from the list view shows corrupted.

I was wondering if you have seen other mentions of this issue anywhere or have ID'd a cause/solution?

Thanks for any response.

I'm also having exactly the same problem. I just updated to the latest version of MACOS 14.1.2 and the problem still exists.

I have not been able to reproduce this with Sonoma. Can you please send me a private message so that we can set up a teamviewer session to investigate.
Is it possibe that it has something to do with the following setting in SMB"Enable Apple SMB2/3 Protocol Extensions" which I enabled recently for perfomance testing reasons ?

I will disable it tdy. evening/night and try to reproduce it again with Apple SMB2/3 Protocol Extensions off...if it does not did the trick I will pm you for a Teamviewer session..thx!

It looks that the recent update 14.2 fixed the issue because since the update I was not able to reproduce it anymore.
With eg. 14.x.x I can reproduce it...Can anybody confirm it as well ?

Did we ever find out the cause?
