Hardware quesiton

Hi all.

I build TrueNAS Core on ASUS P5E3 WS Pro mainboard and 4x4Tb WD Red SATA disks connected to HBA PCIx8 adapter. It working normally.

Now I found PCIX64 network card Q-Logic QLA4052C and I try to install it to my TrueNAS. After reinstall NAS I can't see this network adaptor.

Сould you help with solving this problem, perhaps there is a manual on this issue?

This isn't a supported or recommended card. Please see the 10 Gig Networking Primer for a discussion of supported cards.

Ooof, Asus P5 board? That's a blast from the past. And PCI-X? That's not good at all.

This system of yours is maybe good enough to see if the GUI is to your liking, but not much more than that. It's going to be extremely bottlenecked by the Front-Side Bus, power consumption is going to be ugly for the limited performance (20+ W TDP on just the Northbridge!), and 8 GB of DRAM as the maximum is just not adequate for TrueNAS.

Ericloewe, I am not a fan of freebsd and prefer Debian & CenOS based systems more, and sometimes I also do "necromancy" when there is time and suitable hardware.
I don't see the point in buying new components if in the end I just need a place to store files.
And this configuration will cope with this task, and yes, TrueNAS is good, but it's like a new car that has a bunch of all sorts of gadgets, and I just need it to go :)
I had to install Openmediavault, it supports my old hardware. Of course, he is not so fast and convenient, but I hope that he will cope with his task.

P.S. I found ATI Mach64 PCI video card and I plan to install it to my NAS :)

TrueNAS is an appliance OS and it really shouldn't matter to you what the underlying OS is.

Well, that's great and all, but TrueNAS uses ZFS and ZFS is resource hungry. A system that maxxes out at 8GBytes is really very limiting, and it will also be very difficult to find well-supported hardware (ethernet, HBA, etc) for your 16 year old system.

That is, after all, the problem that brought you here to the forums, it seems. Your QLogic card is intended as an iSCSI HBA (I can't really tell if it has an ethernet personality) and is not compatible with TrueNAS. You may still be able to find a PCI-X network card that's supported. Look for one of the Intel cards, they are usually well supported.
