LSI 9300-8e not seeing disks in MD1400

It's not that difficult to plug SFF-8644 in upside-down. Now that someone other than me has admitted to doing it this has been added to the Resources List.

I don't know if I should be glad to end up in the Resources List, guess its a good thing :) This forum has been a huge help in the past!

If you're seeing the devices twice, you've got a SAS multipath configuration. We don't suggest this for a single-controller head unit; it's used for HA setups with TrueNAS Enterprise.

Are your cables connected from the HBA to each of the "top" and "bottom" enclosure controllers in the MD1400? Do you get a correct setup with all drives detected once (single-path) if you connect both cables to the top/primary controller in the MD1400?

So when I have two cables plugged into port 1 of each EMM on the MD1400 this is what I see with two drives plugged in (one is the HP the other is the HGST).

So you've got your HGST drive showing as visible on enclosure:slot 2:8 and 3:8 (multipath is active here) but your HP is only visible on 3:4 - it might not be properly connected or negotiating nicely on the first link. Reseat the drive perhaps, or relocate it to a different slot and see if the fault follows the drive?

What do you get for a topology and visible devices if you plug both cables into ports 1 + 2 of the top EMM?
