Hey, thanks for checking my thread.

I just turned a unused pc into a Nas with truenas. The pc has a 1TB HDD I want to use as storage. Truenas does list this HDD as a disk but the entire terrabyte of memory is used as bootpool and thus I can't assign it to a new pool.

How can I use this HDD as my storage?

Thanks!

By adding a boot device, installing TrueNAS on it, and then using the HDD for your storage.

We typically suggest a small, inexpensive SSD. A ten-year-old 60GB or 120GB SSD is great for this.

This is all covered in any of the basic FreeNAS/TrueNAS guides, along with some issues you may want to be aware of when you only use a single drive.
