change security run frequency?

Is there any way to change the frequency of the security and/or daily run?
Given my circumstances, daily runs are really overkill, especially for the security run.

Not that I know of. Honestly, daily is about right for a security run. You'd rather know sooner than later if someone compromised your server and gave themselves root access. If you were compromised you want to keep the window of opportunity to a minimum for the intruder.

The files you probably want to take a look at are:

/conf/base/etc/defaults/periodic.conf
/conf/base/etc/periodic.conf

OK thanks, that got me on the right track at least. Those are all configuration files for the "periodic" script which in turn is run with arguments "daily, weekly, monthly" by a cron job, which is really ultimately in charge of the frequency with which (e.g.) "periodic daily" gets run.

cron jobs are configured by /etc/crontab which would normally get overwritten and restored on each boot of FreeNAS but can be permanently modified as described in this thread.

I'd rather only get an email if something about events that require my attention. Plus the email format is completely unreadable on my email client (99% of the time I use my iPhone for email ) as the columns are not anywhere near straight. These 2 factors led me to create a filter that sends the emails straight to the trash bin. Besides, in my case, if I get compromised, they will only have access to my Leave It To Beaver episode collection. Others may have more important information on their NAS, that is why I agree that the feature should be configurable to match the user's needs.
