Hello,

I know that the ARC1882IX is supported by FreeNAS. Is it natively supported or do I need to flash it somehow to get it to work with FreeNAS?

If I need to flash it where do I get the firmware and what it the recommended firmware?

The card has printed on it version 3.0

thanks,

No, we do not suggest using the Areca cards. You may be able to get the disks to show up, but all the various warnings and caveats about using MFI-based LSI RAID controllers are generally applicable to other RAID cards.

You are best off replacing it with an HBA, or if you need more tha 8 ports, more than one HBA. The LSI 9211-8i or any of its OEM equivalents works swimmingly well and the OEM ones like the Dell PERC H200/H310 are often available for $40 or less on eBay.

My server is a super micro with 16 drives. What would be the recommended card to use? I plan on putting drives larger than 4TB on it. I would also like it to support both SAS and Sata Drives.

Check it the resource section. There is an entire thread dedicated to hba's.
