Hello there,

currently I am running FreeNAS on 9.10-U6 and I am planning to upgrade to 11 soon. FreeNAS 11 offers the availability to encrypt pools with AES-256 while 9 was "only" using AES-128. How can I migrate from 128 to 256 Bit?
Is there a way?
Just asking ;)

You'd have to destroy and recreate the pool.

With some fiddling, you may be able to this one disk at a time, but it's not something I'd recommend.

If you're thinking of messing with encryption, might as well wait for native ZFS encryption, which is being finalized right about now and will hopefully be available in the coming months.

Wow, thank you for the information. Did not know that. Maybe this way of native encryption will better work as GELI for example with replacing drives AND attaching encrypted pools. I will google that immediatly.
