SOLVED Weird Windows permissions issues

I have a relatively simple use case: I need a NAS for me and my parents. I already had this working but my USB drive bit the dust and I had to reinstall, and I don't quite remember how I had this set up. Guess this'll teach me to backup the config file.

I have a ZFS dataset that's already loaded up with our stuff, and I just need that CIFS shared with read/write permissions to a group. I have 3 users: hampton, whitson, and tracie, and I'd like to name the group familynas or family or something like that. No matter what I do I can only assign read/write permissions to a single user via the "owner" property, I can't get the "group" permissions to behave. Please advise.

Thanks for the quick response! I don't know how I did it originally because I don't remember having to configure permissions from the client, but simply setting my account as the owner and then editing the ACLs from a Windows PC to allow the "family" group full control got the job done.

And after fixing this you have saved a copy of your config somewhere on a client computer, right?;)
