I also wanted to point out some plugins will need some sort of licence agreement upon installing. I'm looking at packaging up subsonic but we'd need to ship compiled versions of java and lame, these both need the user's agreement to install. I believe java needs it's license read. just a heads up.

It looks like there's a mechanism in the make PBI config file for acknowledging a license, but I don't know how it works and what happens if there are multiple licenses. I suspect this isn't a new situation.

OpenJDK doesn't have the same sort of license requirement that Diable JRE does which requires you to download it separately.

that's what I was thinking, any reason you choose diablojre when you did your serviio instructions? I got everything running with subsonic, gotta package it up, test it, then I'll post it. I'll see if I can do it with openjdk then

EDIT
uhh, openjdk is 212MB... I guess I'll start stripping it down to it's bare essentials? Guess this wont be a one night project lol

EDIT2
'/openjdk7/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.debuginfo' is 366.5MB lol, I guess if I drop that this thing will be a bit more manageable.

Diable JRE was just what someone else got to work first and I stuck with it. Don't use OpenJDK-7, I don't remember why, but you should use OpenJDK-6.

We should probably not discuss this in this thread since it's supposed to be for requests.

+1 Logitech Media Server

Actually, I am deciding on whether to buy a prebuild NAS or build one my own using FreeNAS. One of the requirements in my decision making, is the ability to run Logitech Media Server. I understand such plugin for FreeNAS is not finished any time soon, but for me it can wait. However, I really would like to know if there are any plans for implementation.

Other plugins I would love to see when using FreeNAS: Asterisk (+GUI), Dropbox

Currently i'm using this:

not the latest version of LMS but it works

Another vote for subsonic

Subsonic is really well done IMHO. Would love to see a plugin for it as well.

I am interested a lot in this. I am a freebsd newbie I would like to know if it is possible to quickly add this as a package to a freenas installation. OR is it faster to add it as a PBI. Gui is not needed actually.
Thanks for help.

Definitely easier and faster to install as a package...

New Plugin Requests for 8.2.0 Release

With the release of FreeNAS 8.2.0 with it's plugin system, will it possible to request that other apps be ported to FreeNAS plugins?

From what I've read and understood in the plugins documentation you can't just take a PC-BSD .pbi file and install it as a freenas plugin.

Thanks!

While that's doable, the 8.x series of PBIs are very out-dated, meaning you'd be better off installing the package or compiling the port. Also, FreeNAS PBI's have that extra config file to integrate the application's configuration into the FreeNAS GUI. It is that file which takes the most time to create and which requires some programming knowledge.

It is registered under Subversion, hope someone has resources left for an implementation, it would be great for a lot of developers.
