Upgrade from 9.3 to 9.10

Ignoring the numerical scheme of the upgrades, when I upgraded to 9.10 from 9.3 I received this message -

WARNING: Firmware version 7 does not match driver version 20 for /dev/mps0. Please flash controller to P20 IT firmware.

I am using a Dell R515 server from this FreeNAS installation. It does not use a branded LSI controller and the Dell SAS firmware (as well as all of the others) are current.

Suggestions, other than reverting to 9.3?

9.3 has the same warning.
It sounds like the Dell HBA is actually using an LSI chip (which is being detected). Look into the exact model and how to flash to P20.

I don't doubt that Dell is actually OEMing the LSI, but am reluctant to use a third party upgrade, and it wasn't a problem with 9.3. Has anyone else using the R515 had this problem and is a LSI patch the fix?

I understand your hesitance to flashing the Dell controller. In that case, the suggestion would be to get an M1015 HBA and flashing it to p20-IT.

I went back to 9.3 where this message disappears as does the gpt boot error mesage. I'll post in the bugs section and wait until 9.102 before trying again. I do know 9.10 was named 9.10 as it appears to be a downgrade from 9.3. It should have been 9.4-9.9.

You should open an actual Bug report (link at the top of every page in Green "Report a bug". Then post the bug number in a post in the forum if you want to have a discussion.

It was named 9.10 because the underlying OS was bumped up to freebsd10, but the gui and middleware are still part of the freenas 9.x train. hence 9 + 10 = 9.10.
