I'm using FreeNAS 9.2.1.9 without the internet. I would like to install the Plex and SyncThing plugins. I would therefore have to download the jails somewhere else and import them in. After that the plugins should install fine I think.

How would I do this? Is there steps involved?

It should be possible. Look up some posts from jruelig. I believe there's a way to install using a .PBI file.

Sure.. You should be able to download the .pbi files and install that way.. I'm not sure how the jail system will respond though.. It should be ok and the apps/jails shouldnt require outside access..

One way would be to install FreeNAS on a system that does have an internet connection, and install whatever you want there, and then replicate a snapshot of the jails dataset to the offline box.

What if installed FreeNAS inside a VM (Virtual box) and then did all the installs and copied the the files from a dataset share that contains the jails to a external HDD and then on to the actual FreeNAS Machine.
would I then be able to install the plugins?

I think that might be another valid way?

So much unnecessary work doing it that way.. and it's not supported nor recommended as your using a VM.. You already have a computer thats connected.. go to http://download.freenas.org/plugins/9/x64/ and download the newest version of whatever you want.. Save PBI on FreeNAS ( or move to FreeNAS if not connected at all).. Load on FreeNAS.. Easypeezy..

But will that work without first copying over jails? I was going to do it that way first to work out the way jails are configured because the actual FreeNAS (not VM) was all installed completely offline. I have no way without using all my mobile data and a wifi extender which for obvious reasons is out of connecting it to the internet.
The VM is in a laptop I take to hotspots in libarys and such and would be able to install the appropriate plugins and then copy that to the actual FreeNAS (Not VM).

From what I've seen of the plugins, plex for example have only the plugins and not the jail it gets installed into which it downloads while your installing it. As I've stated before it is completely offline and without mentioned above method with mobile data.
