Let me start by saying, I am relatively new to FreeNAS, but I have had this server running for about a year with no major issues. Here is the build I am using.
A few days ago all of my shares stopped working. After trying to fix them, and getting no where I thought I would just start over. I deleted all of my users, groups, and shares. I found this video to help me through setting everything back up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVJQ0Vx_6i4
I am trying to create an AFP share first. Then I will need to do the same thing for a CIFS share.
My first question: Do I have to create a new dataset or can I use an existing data set for a user? What is the proper way of doing this? Just change the owner in the permissions of the dataset?
I followed the steps in that video except for creating a new dataset and I am unable to connect to the server through finder. I tried browsing to the "Shared" section of finder, clicking on the FreeNAS machine, connect as, put in the password for the user, and it does not connect. Then I tried to connect through Command+K, and putting in AFP://Free.nas.IP. Nothing happens. Not even a dialog for logging in.
At this point I have absolutely no clue what I am doing wrong. This stuff worked just fine when I set it up the first time.
