ZFS replication

I just can't make it work :(

The documentation is ambiguous in that it mentions a replication user, and copying across the public keys. However it doesn't say whether this is a user that should exist (which doesn't) or that needs creating. Either way, I can't get anything other than a replication failed due to a broken pipe.

As ever... stating the obvious and checking for user error is most welcome if anyone has any suggestions.

On the Add Replication screen there are the Dedicated User Enabled and Dedicated User fields. If you enable the dedicated user, then you need to pick an existing/created user account. If you do not enable the dedicated user then root will be used; i.e. you need to copy the key to the root account.

Yeah... I thought that might be he case. I've tried both a dedicated user and using root. No joy.

It isn't possible to delete the key settings from root once added. At least no in the GUI. Changes are not saved and I'm not sure where this lives to remove it in the shell.

Ideally I'd clear my settings and try it all again in case I've made an error.

What "key settings"? The Modify User / SSH Public Key field? I can change / delete its content without problem in the GUI. The keys are stored in [Home Directory]/.ssh/authorized_keys, so for root it's /root/.ssh/authorized_keys. However, this is a read only location, the GUI briefly remounts the root filesystem Read/Write to change the file.

interesting... I can't. If I delete the contents, press ok, go back in... they're still there. If I change the contents the UI crashes and I have to reboot the server before I can do anything else.

I mounted / read write and removed the key file. I'll go through the process again and see what happens.

ok, I'll have to chalk that one up to idiocy on my part. It's working now. Odd that I had to manually delete the authorized_keys file for root though.
