Several days ago, noticed my freenas data was degradated.

So, after running:
zpool status (" gptid/8d59bd77-cbf2-11e4-afcf-0cc47a004dac DEGRADED"), then
glabel status ("gptid/8d59bd77-cbf2-11e4-afcf-0cc47a004dac N/A ada3p2"), then smartcl (below).... It appears to me the drive is ok, but the data cannot be resilverd to bring the drive back in sync?

I ran the extended SMART test on the drive this morning.

the steps illustrated (ID drive, SMART printout) in text document attached.

Appreciate any help.
I believe the drive was disconnected for several days (bad hot swap bay power)... and is unable to recover?

Thanks again

It's possible for a drive to go bad without any SMART failures. However, if it was just a case of the drive losing power, you could follow the directions in the documentation for replacing a failed drive, but instead of installing a new drive, wipe the one you have and then reuse it. You might even be able to do an in-place replacement without wiping it. Your pool is safe for now because you were smart enough to go with a RAIDZ2 vdev layout.

Can I simply "wipe" the drive from the FreeNAS GUI (view disks screen)? Then it will repopulate the drive?

I have an extra (same model HD/size) drive... Can I shut down the system.. replace drive.. reboot, then it will repopulate?

Can I simply "wipe" the drive from the FreeNAS GUI (view disks screen)? Then it will repopulate the drive?

The first option would probably work. I like the 2nd option, because you can then take your time running other tests on the replaced drive, and put it away as a spare if it seems OK.

By the way, hourly short SMART tests seems like overkill to me. Daily is more than sufficient in my opinion.

thank-you.
decided to replace the drive with machine off.
After reboot, CLI "zpool status" shows new drive (below), but GUI wont give me "replace" tab when I view "storage>volume>view disks"....
GUI shows ada3 with new serial number.
I guess I'm not sure how to get it back in the pool if GUI doesnt give me "replace" tab?

(and thanks for the SMART test advice!)

There is a documented procedure for replacing a drive. Step 1 is to offline the 'bad' drive, which I'm guessing you didn't do. I expect you can recover by temporarily installing the old drive and then offlining it, but there's probably an easier way too. Maybe you can just offline the disk FreeNAS sees now, then do an in-place replacement.

Yes, section 8.1.10 ( in 9.3 documentation: http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas_storage.html). I've read it numerous times.

The problem was/is .. There was no tab to to take the degraded disk "offline" (in disk view screen at bottom) ... Which according to the documentation means it was already off line.
Then I powered off, replaced the drive w a new similar drive, reboot..... And Voila!.... The GUI ("disk view") shows the drive as part of the volume, new HD serial number for new drive visible, (highlighting the drive... Shows 2 tabs at bottom, "edit " and "wipe" ) ... But CLI shows it as above "not available".

I'm transferring the volume to a couple Green6Tb's now.... I don't like NOT having the extra parity with the drive out.

I've been considering with the idea of bumping up the storage size, ... So this may be my chance to reflash that M1015.

I'd kind of like to figure this out, but may just rebuild the server, M1015/ more storage.
Thanks for your help.
