I am currently deciding whether or not to set up a FreeNAS box, and although I have done my share of reading I am no expert.

I currently have 6 terabytes of NTFS formatted data, how difficult is it to move data from NTFS to ZFS/ could you point me to a resource on the subject?

Thanks

There is not procedure for this. You will have to create a new (sufficiently large) ZFS volume and copy the data over. Probably easiest (although not very fast) to mount the NTFS volume onto the FreeNAS system and run a script on the FreeNAS system. By using rsync you can continue to write to the NTFS volume while the copy operation is in progress (it will probably take at least a week to copy that much stuff). Then you can restart the rsync script when it finishes a few times until it copies no more files. At that point the synchronization is complete and you can switch to using the ZFS volume instead.
