Hello All. I'm a bit worried about recovering from this and will appreciate all help. I assume I must replace the drive. How is that done safely? Can I just try to boot again or is that dangerous? Should I shut down until ready to replace drive?

Here is my story---

Rebooted FN 9.10 earlier after network configuration changes. Just wanted to see a clean start. I was surprised and dismayed to receive this email:
The volume zVol (ZFS) state is DEGRADED: One or more devices has been removed by the administrator. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state.

Got a zpool report:
########## ZPool status report for zVol ##########

pool: zVol
state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices has been removed by the administrator.
Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a
degraded state.
action: Online the device using 'zpool online' or replace the device with
'zpool replace'.

FreeNAS 9.10 up-to-date. C2750D4I. 32GB Crucial ECC. Using the six Intel ports for six WD Red 6TBs in RaidZ2. Until today SMART tests were clean. Ran clean extended test on ada5 just two days ago.

Any danger in trying a reboot before replacing drive?

Looks like your drive fully died I guess. Strange to not get any smart warnings before it died. Maybe double check your email settings. To replace the drive follow the steps in the manual and stop using the cli.

Added a seventh 6TB WD RED intending to replace the failed ada5. Rebooted. zVol now healthy. ada5 now shows up and here is SMART:

So, I'm now wondering about the C2750D4I since I'm on my third board via two RMAs.

If anyone has an idea here I would greatly appreciate the help. Would you replace the drive that had been the problem? Or, would you watch it?

Seems OK to me, it's passing smart tests to I would use it and watch it.

I have a feeling it's either the SATA cable or the PSU. I would replace the SATA cable and ensure your FreeNAS emails are working.

And schedule regular SMART short and extended tests on all your drives, and enable SMART checks.
