Hey everybody,

I'm completely new to FreeNAS and wanted to ask for your help with the hardware I want to use…
I chose the Intel i3 9100F and want to have the ability to upgrade to a Xeon later if needed. Therefore I chose the lX11SCH-LN4F Motherboard (-F not available, price is the same) with the Intel C246 chipset. When I looked in the OS compatibility list, FreeBSD wasn't supported by the X11SCH at all. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but might this be a problem?
Furthermore, Supermicro says "2666MHz ECC UDIMM; 4 DIMM slots". Will this setup work with the Crucial 32gb ECC DIMM Ram CT32G4LFD4266 or would the Samsung ECC mentioned on the Supermicro website be the better choice?

Plan is to use it as home file server and for media purpose with 6x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf (Raid-Z2).

Thanks a lot!

Forgot to say: It doesn't need to be the X11 Board. If there are better options allowing me to switch to a Xeon later on, that would be fine for me, too!

and for media purpose

Keep in mind the i3-9100F doesn't have an iGPU whereas the i3-9100 does. This board supports Plex hardware transcode from TrueNAS 12 on, using an Intel iGPU.

work with the Crucial 32gb ECC DIMM Ram CT32G4LFD4266

No. Aren't you glad you asked first :). That's an LR-DIMM, you need a UDIMM. Unbuffered, not Registered.

This will work and is surprisingly affordable: https://store.supermicro.com/memory/ddr4/32gb-ddr4-2666-mem-dr432l-cv02-eu26.html

to upgrade to a Xeon later if needed

The Xeon gets you 128GiB max memory vs. the i3-9100 64GiB max, but I think that's it as far as practical differences are concerned.
