Hi all,

Having spent some time reading through the hardware forum I have put together the following build to upgrade my current FreeNAS box and would love to hear your opinions.

Board:
Supermicro X10SLM+-F (http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182823)
As I already have an I3-4130 in my current setup I would like to re-use it with this board.

CPU:
Intel Core I3-4130 (http://ark.intel.com/products/77480/Intel-Core-i3-4130-Processor-3M-Cache-3_40-GHz)
As explained above I have this in my current setup and would like to re-use it to save some cash!

Memory:
Crucial CT2KIT102472BD160B 16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 72 (http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ct2kit102472bd160b)
After reading the RAM recommendations for LGA 1150 I believe this 2x8GB kit should be ok but please correct me if I am mistaken.

HDDs:
2 x
WD 3TB Green Desktop Drive (http://www.ebuyer.com/260668-wd-3tb-green-desktop-drive-wd30ezrx)
I am looking to purchase 2 additional 3TB drives to use with my existing 3TB Toshiba (see below)

1 x Toshiba 3TB DT Series Hard Drive
(http://www.ebuyer.com/461603-toshiba-3tb-dt-series-hard-drive-retail-box-pa4293e-1hn0)
As explained I already own this HDD and it is currently in my FreeNAS setup

Case:
CoolerMaster K280 (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cooler-master-k-280-black-mid-tower-performance-case-w-o-psu)

I already own this case and it can take up to 7 drives which is more than enough for my needs at this time and also leaves me with space to expand in the future if neccessary.

PSU:
Corsair CXM 500W Hybrid Modular Power Supply (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-corsair-cxm-builder-series-hybrid-modular-80-plus-bronze-1x120mm-atx-psu)
Again I already own this PSU and it should be fine for my requirements.

This is my first post in this awesome forum so if I have missed anything out please let me know and I will correct it ASAP.

Thanks!

Nothing wrong here.

Consider RAIDZ2. It can save you many headaches in nasty situations and is just generally safer.

It'll work. Haven't had very good luck with low-end Corsairs, though. For the future, consider a Seasonic G-450 or G-500.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm glad I'm on the right track.

Regarding RAIDZ2, given that I'm on a bit of a budget would you say that you would favour smaller drives in a RAIDZ2 (eg 4 x 1TB) or should stick with my original plan of RAIDZ 3 x 3TB?
