Would this hardware suffice for a basic NAS setup?

I'm looking to build a basic NAS rig with ECC; I was going to use an old Q9650 rig I have lying around, but the lack of ECC in that sort of setup just doesn't seem like it would be a good idea.

Thinking of getting (only if I can for cheap):

Pentium G2130
mATX Supermicro board (X9SCL-F)

In other words, does the info in this old thread still apply (is the hardware still good enough)?

Not looking to transcode/plex or anything, at least for now; still, not sure if this hardware is just way too old nowadays/if better value can be had elsewhere.

I ran my NAS on a X9SCL-F for a number of years; it's still a perfectly decent board, if a little long in the tooth. You'd be stuck with the Java-based IPMI virtual console. The biggest limit will be RAM; it won't take more than 32 GB. But for basic file-sharing, that board and CPU should work fine.

I won't really be using IPMI anyway.

Unless I'm missing something.

So I ended up getting the aforementioned motherboard, which I am planning to pair with 32 GB of ECC RAM. However, I decided to go with a Xeon (E3-1200v2 series) instead of the Pentium.

Aside from slightly higher base and turbo frequencies, is the only real difference between the E3-1220v2 and E3-1230v2 the fact that the latter has HT, while the former does not? If so, do I have a real use for HT as far as a NAS rig goes? Again, I doubt I will even be doing any transcoding/plexing, though I may eventually.

(If the power draw of the 1220v2 is even slightly less than the 1230v2, I'm leaning more towards it, assuming HT has no real benefit for my purposes.)
