I'm at wits end here. Been trying to fix this all bloody day.

Everything was fine until a Windows 10 update this morning and it auto reboot while I was transferring files to a drive on the FreeNAS machine. After that, I can't get it working properly again.

I've done so much today, I don't even know where to begin. Basically, my Windows share aren't working properly. But I will get it working, then it cuts me off.
What I'm saying is, I get it going again, I'll see the drive/share in the File Explorer, I start transferring files, and I come back and it's cut off and Windows can't access the share anymore.

I have the latest version of FreeNas and Windows 10 going. Router is a NETGEAR R7000. I've rebooted everything a good 5 times each. Tried different ethernet cables, different router ports. Tried disabling Windows Firewall. Deleting the shares, re-adding them.

I've tried messing with so many settings on FreeNAS and in Windows I don't even know where to go from here.
Any ideas? I'll try anything.

You can upload a debug file. "System" -> "Advanced" -> "Save Debug".
Note that the debug file can contain sensitive information (like your dataset name). So if you have a dataset named "stuff I keep hidden from my wife and my employer". I'd recommend either (1) sorting through it and only posting relevant bits enclosed in [ code ] tags or (2) PMing the debug file.

I don't think saving the debug file is working. It just opens another page. The other page has this:

Request Method: GET
Request URL: http://192.168.1.2/system/debug/download/
Software Version: FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201602031011
Exception Type: IOError
Exception Value:
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/db/system/ixdiagnose/ixdiagnose.tgz'
Exception Location: /usr/local/www/freenasUI/../freenasUI/system/views.py in debug_download, line 926
Server time: Thu, 18 Feb 2016 15:22:52 -0500

I'm not seeing anything to download. There was a warning it could take a while and it took less than a second.

That's a good video. I did a clean flash of the latest FreeNAS to reset everything, I followed that video, but the CIFS service won't start. Getting the "service could not be started" error. And I can't find a way to fix that.
@m0nkey_ your video didn't work. :D Post full output of "testparm" enclosed in [ code ] tags, as well as any interesting entries in /var/log/samba4/log.smbd

Don't think I'm doing this right. Am I just suppose to paste those commands into Shell? Here is what I got:
Code:
[root@freenas ~]# testparm
Load smb config files from /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)
params.c:OpenConfFile() - Unable to open configuration file "/usr/local/etc/smb4
.conf":
No such file or directory
Error loading services.
[root@freenas ~]#

and

Code:
[root@freenas ~]# /var/log/samba4/log.smbd
bash: /var/log/samba4/log.smbd: Permission denied
[root@freenas ~]#

You are using 1/2 the memory listed in FreeNAS's system requirements. Additionally, it appears that your freenas install is probably corrupted. Post output of "zpool status" and "cat /var/log/samba4/log.smbd".

Oh boy lol.. Anodos on his game lol.. Damn Yea.. 4gb I'm surprised you haven't lost a pool yet.. I mean it will run but barely.. Ditch that stuff.. New hardware time!.. Just use your drives in your regular desktops or storage solution.. Backup and be done with it.. I can always help you out depending on where you located.. Nas4Free may be better suited but I know they are using the same versions of BSD now..

Yeah, I have no excuse for only having 4GB. I knew, just thought I could get "get away" with only having 4GB.

Code:
[root@freenas ~]# zpool status
pool: NAS
state: ONLINE
scan: scrub repaired 0 in 7h46m with 0 errors on Fri Feb 12 05:28:55 2016
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
NAS ONLINE 0 0 0
gptid/4ed842dc-d06b-11e5-9437-002618244d54 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

pool: freenas-boot
state: ONLINE
scan: none requested
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
freenas-boot ONLINE 0 0 0
da0p2 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors
[root@freenas ~]#

I can't even copy what I'm getting from "cat /var/log/samba4/log.smbd" It's too long and I can't copy the text in Shell.

I am close to just throwing these drives in my desktop.
Oh, I am at the point where I'm willing to pay someone to get this running. I'm pretty frustrated.

Okay. Your pool doesn't have any redundancy. At this point I'd start by making a backup of your data. Enable the SSH service, change the config to allow root login, and use an SFTP client like WINSCP to copy the data off of it.

If you are unable to meet the minimum hardware requirements of FreeNAS, I'd suggest looking at Openmediavault. It's probably a good idea to avoid ZFS, and get a second hard drive so that you can have some redundancy in your storage array.

If you decide to go onward with FreeNAS, I highly recommend switching to newer server hardware. You can currently purchase a Dell T20 from Dell's website for $179. Bring RAM up to 8GB and you're back in business. Things should run quite a bit more stably. You should still consider getting a second drive and creating a mirror. ZFS can't fix data corruption without some sort of redundancy / second copy of the data.

Thanks.
So my plan is just to get the data off these two hard drives. I enabled SSH, downloaded WinSCP, but I don't know know where to go from there. I put in the host name, username, password and it won't connect. Should I be able to connect to my drive in FreeNAS and transfer to a hard drive on my Windows desktop?

Is there a guide you can point me to? I've tried Googling "freenas ssh to wiscp" "freenas wipscp", "freenas wipscp", tried looking for YouTube videos. I feeling like an idiot. Can't figure this out.

You can use SFTP or SCP. User the IP address of your server. Once you click the "Login" button, you should be prompted for your password. Once you authenticate, your FreeNAS server's filesystem will be in the right panel and your client's filesystem will be in the left panel. Your pool will be located under /mnt in the right panel.
