The system will be fairly low usage serving files ranging from a dozen files under 50kb in size to a few random files 50 megabytes to 300 gigabytes in size at a time to a single person via nfs to a web server than out to the person, rarely there may be 2 users pulling files and sometimes i might be there with a USB drive attached pulling data off the USB onto the array to add to it and randomly doing large pulls of up wards of a few TB of mixed data to a single user.

Storage aim is near ~60TB usable with 2 drives for parity.

Memory Open to suggestions, 16? 32?

HDD: 8x 10TB IronWolf NAS HDD, SATA III w/ 128MB Cache

USB 3.0 20-Pin Header to USB 3.0 Type-A Connector for dual internal stored USB sticks. (still need to figure this out on brands)

Boot drive: as above looking at what brands i can find assuming 64gb in size is good x2 to mirror.

Aside from finding OS drives, the case is taken care of its an older case that holds 14 maybe 16 drives from a now dead raid (double wide format) will be swapping out a few fans just to make sure things are working nice.

is this PSU enough? is it over kill?
I assume in a few years if we needed to i could pop in a SATA expansion card and run a 2nd raid off of this system with another power supply (the case can hold two).

Would like to buy local but it seems memory express is lacking on selection of a few things lately so looks like mixing up the order between local and newegg.ca.

Scale that down by 0.909. Hard drives are sold in powers of 10, not powers of two. Also, 20% "don't fill me if you value your sanity" space.

I'd start with 32GB.

Weird choice. Get a Seasonic X-750 instead. Platinum 760 if you really want Platinum.

I'd start out on 64GB RAM and call it done. With a budget of that caliber, the differences up to grabbing another 2 sticks of RAM is negligible in the larger perspective. Then you'd never need to reconsider getting that upgrade to "fix" whatever performance deficiency you might think is RAM related. You'd be good as long as this E3 platform is relevant.
I value that kind of piece of mind.. (now in retrospect that I've encountered insufficient RAM and the struggles that came with it)
