I want to delete the 'default' boot environment to free up space on the system USB drive.

I got into trouble doing exactly this on a PC-BSD system a while back, it totally broke system boot beyond repair and the entire OS had to be re-installed.

That bug has since been fixed on PC-BSD. Is it still hiding out in FreeNAS?

Would appreciate if someone from IXSystems can please answer definitively if deleting the default boot environment is supported or not.

You should be able to delete any of them that you want, except the one that is labeled "on reboot" or "now". That would probably end badly assuming the GUI would even let you.

If anyone reading this notices the GUI lets you do something stupid, please add a bug report for that.
