Just like the title says:

If I have 6 disks, which would be better for redundancy and performance?

3x 2-drive mirrors in stripe
1 6-drive in RaidZ3?

This is mostly a hypothetical question, because I'm not considering this, but the question ran through my mind.

OK, so its going to depend on the use case. Most of what I have here is just a homelab that serves video files to Kodi, and a few VMs running on a separate XCP-NG box over NFS.

If I were in an enterprise situation, I'd probably go with the mirrors for VMs, and have a couple cold spares. But since this is a homelab, I'd probably take the performance hit (since my VMs don't generate a lot of IOPs)

Thanks for the info.

I have 7 x 14 TBs and settled with 3 x 2 mirrors + 1 hotspare. After resesrch and speaking with folks, I feel this works best for me to have performance and a comfort level of resiliency
