Which service is executed every approx. 10 seconds? - Video -

Hello,

my "server" with TrueNAS "scrapes" once every approx. 10 seconds.
Even if nothing is done, the server should be idle, there is this noise every approx. 10 seconds.

It is not the hard disks, I removed them all individually and checked them with CrystalDiskInfo.

I had disconnected all fans, it is not because of that (one rear fan is turned, now also blows to the outside, was mounting error), the noise remains.
TrueNAS is only set up as a data server with SMB, nothing more. No plugins installed, nothing. Also the pool for plugins to install is deleted. I only have a pool from the 7 hard drives for data exchange in the home network.

Power consumption is about 90W even when nothing is running, about 120 - 130W when copying data.

The hard disks are set to go into standby after 20min, furthermore the level 127 is set (recommended for the WD Red). Also the harddisk volume is set to minimum.

What could be the reason for this?

To me that sounds like one of the disks is about to die. Can you power on the system but keep it from booting? Connect the disks to their power one by one and see if one of them is making that noise on its own?

I connected each hard drive individually to power cables, ran them for a bit, no noise.
No noise was heard in the bios of the computer either.
I also connected the system SSD to the 4 SATA expansion card and 1 hard drive to the mainboard.
The noise appears as soon as the system is booted, so the console appears.
Can it be that I made a check mark somewhere that now runs a service every 10 seconds or so? Is there a log file somewhere?

10 seconds is a default interval for collectd maybe stop that service and see if it goes away. Collectd writes rrd files to the path it's configured to log to.

Hi Folks

I have the same issue I think. Every 10 seconds I get a spin of the hard disks that causes the entire case to shake and its quiet loud.
Could somebody please tell me how to stop and restart the collectd service please? That way I could check if that's what makes the noise.
What is that service used for anyway?

I am a total amateur trying to learn how to set up and use a nas

Collects and stores data for the reporting pages.

It's in your system dataset, which would ideally be moved to either the boot pool (assuming you have an SSD, not USB stick) or an SSD pool (System | System Dataset).

Thank you very much that works, in that at least its silent now. But it still writes continually about every 10 seconds to the SSD.
Is there a good reason for that? It would consume some electricity over a year and probably wear the SSD out quickly?.

I am not sure that the iron wolf hard drives should be suspended in the FRACTAL NODE 304 case like that. I have placed the entire case on a towel to dampen the vibrations and will monitor this when I get the hard drives tested.
