Hello and good evening.

I've searched for a while for a SAS-Controller or a SAS-Raid Controller that supports SATA devices and SAS Extender, but i dont know how to search for the SAS extender feature.
For Example this: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_i...i-lane-PCIe-x4-Low-Profile-retail_915349.html

I don't know if it supports SAS extender devices.
Does only SAS-Raid-Controllers support SAS extender? Or are they SAS-Controllers which support it too?

Sorry if my english is not that good and if i'm totally silly.

To answer your questions give this and this a read first, im sure someone else will tell you to do the same, but from what i can find thats a HBA, so it MIGHT do JBOD....most of the info i found on it was useless and just said HBA. As for if itll work with a expander i dont see why it wouldnt.

The SAS spec is solid and any controller should drive an expander. However, the Adaptec controllers often don't play very nice with FreeNAS. Get an LSI based HBA. It is by far the most solid choice.

Get something with an LSI chipset (not a full blown raid 5/6 card though). The LSI based IBM cards referenced above by a previous poster, as well as LSI brand and Supermicro brand that have or can be flashed to HBA (IT) firmware are a good bet. Also, try to match them with an LSI based expander too. LSI is the gold standard for this stuff and having both the HBA and expander contain LSI chips will greatly reduce the chances of anything weird popping up down the road regarding compatibility.
