FreeNAS is a lightweight UNIX system. Any UNIX primer will get you going.

Any UNIX *command line* primer, I mean. The GUI stuff in FreeNAS is bespoke to FreeNAS, but the command line is much the same as UNIX has used for decades (although with simpler editing!) - it's the 'bash' shell.
There aren't many commands available in FreeNAS because it's a dedicated purpose installation - you can see them in /bin and /usr/bin. Worst for an aspiring command line user, there are no manual pages on the system. You can look the commands up on the FreeBSD manual site (choose "FreeBSD 8.3-Stable" as the version).
